New players

First time?
Start here.

Never played, or haven’t picked up a racquet since school? You’re exactly who we love seeing on court. Here’s everything you need for your first hit.

01

Pick your first session

Beginners coaching is the easiest way in. A coach runs the session and you learn the basics with other new players.

Bell Post HillTuesday 6pm to 7:30pm, Saturday 12:30pm to 2pm

TarratarraSaturday and Sunday 12:30pm to 2pm

Prefer to just play? Socials welcome every level, and organisers group players of a similar standard.

02

Book your spot

Socials are booked on Sportsied. Court hire and Bell Post Hill coaching are booked on Sportlogic.

You don’t need to be a member. Non-members sign up with an email address and pay the casual rate.

Can’t make it after booking? Let us know through the contact page so someone else can take your spot.

03

What to bring

  • Non-marking indoor shoes. These are a must, as they protect the courts.
  • Sportswear you can move in.
  • A water bottle.
  • A racquet if you have one. If not, you can hire one from $4.

Shuttles, grips and racquets are also available in our Pro Shop.

04

On the day

Arrive ten minutes early, say hi at the front desk and we’ll point you to the right court.

At socials, players rotate through games so everyone gets court time. There are no referees, so line calls work on an honour system. Good sportsmanship is the only rule that really matters.

Quick questions

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely. Most people come to their first social on their own. Organisers will pair you up and group you with players of a similar level.

I’ve never played. Will I hold people up?

Not at all. Start with beginners coaching if you’d like to learn the basics first, or join a social and tell the organiser it’s your first time.

Can kids play?

Yes. Juniors under 16 need to be supervised by a parent, guardian or one of our coaches during bookings. Junior coaching runs throughout the week.

Is there an accessible entrance?

Yes. Bell Post Hill has accessible parking, accessible toilets and a drop off zone at the entrance. Our Access and Inclusion page has the full details, and we run para badminton coaching too.

See you on court.
